Autumn Stock

Autumn is rolling around the corner and there is a definite nip in the evening air. This has made me think of the inevitable winter freeze which will need warding off. Luckily I discovered this monster lurking in the undergrowth.
I have every intention of carving this up and making soup with it, so when winter snaps I shall be ready with a nourishing pumpkin and coconut soup to sup on. Ha, take that winter!
Another helpful autumn crop are the raspberries. For some reason every year my summer raspberries seem to be non-existent (even though I have more bushes) and I usually always have a bumper crop of autumn one’s.
I’d like to blame ‘the fairies’ but I suspect that the birds and their migratory disappearance after the summer sunshine fades might be a more likely explanation.
Ah, the fairies are at work in my garden too, my raspberries also disappear.
Soup….you just can’t beat it. Yes the mists are rolling in, the days become shorter and I too feel that chill creepiting in…..xxxx
I love squash soup. Our squashes are doing really well. (no help from me, all wellywoman’s work!)
I do better with summer than autumn raspberries. xx
I’m awash with autumn raspberries – and they’ve been fruiting for over a month now! I don’t grow summer raspberries but was worried that the birds here would be after my redcurrants and cherries – however, it didn’t happen and I was able to harvest the lot myself.
What kind of pumpkin is this? I always prefer autumn raspberries as they don’t tend to be attacked by raspberry beetle. Hope your fairies help you with the weeding form time to time 😉
If only they did! I think the pumpkin variety is called ‘Big Max’, a friend told me to put a slate under them to stop them rotting, I’m not a big fan of putting straw down because the mice had a lovely time making homes in it last year.
I have little squashes and pumpkins peeking out and hiding in various places too! I went a bit over board this year because mine did nothing last year. I am gutted that Autumn is nearly here!!! Trying not to think about it, although I like the colours of autumn I just feel like I haven’t accomplished enough this summer. Too many weekends away and too much of a jungle to keep on top of! Looking forward to seeing how your pumpkins get on 🙂
Thanks, I love the Autumn colours as well. My favourite part is when the leaves turn various shades of gold and orange.
